Health Equity Summit '25

One of our research assistants, OV Poddar, presented at the Health Equity Summit on October 23, 2025. His summer research project titled "Investigating the Effects of Changes in Perceived Discrimination on Cognition during Adolescence", may suggest that youth in supportive school contexts demonstrate a pattern of “positive enhancing” resilience, where heightened exposure to stressors is associated with more favorable outcomes. His poster also won the Wildcard award. Congrats OV!

Echo Center's After Dark Event

On October 16th, our lab had the opportunity to participate in the Echo Center’s After Dark Event. Our own Dr. Brieant presented on the Neuroscience of fear and UVM’s Dr. Fournier presented on fear and the brain! We also had a Halloween edition Tower of Hanoi game, played some trivia, and had some cool MRI tasks.

Flux Conference

Our P.I. had the opportunity to attend the 2025 FLUX meeting for the advancement of child and adolescent mental health in Dublin, Ireland! During this conference, she educated on the protective role of community cohesion across rural and urban contexts and their implications on youth mental health.

Our lab teamed up with NAMI to spread mental health awareness at the Lake Monsters Game on July 29th.

Society for Research in Child Development

During the last week of April 2025, our P.I and our Lab Manager attended the 2025 Biennial Meeting of the Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) in Minneapolis, MN. Our P.I presented at two paper symposiums, and our Lab Manager presented a poster.

Student Research Conference

On Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025, our lab presented three posters at the UVM Student Research Conference. Emma Renwick presented a poster entitled, "Associations Between Trauma Exposure and Perceptions of Family Conflict." Jenna Gonzalez, Lexie Divers, and Rachel Lamb presented a poster entitled, "Amplifying Adolescent Voices: The CARES Study on Stress, Adversity, and Resilience." Avinabo Poddar and Emily Tan presented a poster entitled, "Barriers to Youth Neuroimaging Research Participation: Insights from the CARES Study."
